History of the Castle:
Chartered by King John in the 12th Century on the shores of Lough Ree, Portlick castle is a stunning example of mediaeval architecture.
Additional wings were constructed in the 15th, 18th and 20th Centuries. An old ringfort and motte exist nearby dating from around 200 AD.
Portlick Castle offers 10 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms furnished to period style and capable of accommodating up to 20 guests. Apart from three function rooms, a dining room and a library, the minstrel's gallery, formally known as the banqueting hall, has a renaissance style fireplace and will provide a truly medieval experience.
